Welcome to Mossman Guitars!

Mossman guitars have had a fine reputation since Stuart Mossman began crafting his fine instruments in the mid-1960’s. The tradition of hand crafting “only the best” guitars continues with Mossman Guitars at our factory/converted dairy barn in Sulphur Springs, Texas.

We are downright proud to have developed our
suspension bracing. It took over three years of intense research and development to produce a top bracing system that is significantly better than our competitors’ bracing. Mossman’s suspension braces are beefy, but we have hand-carved the braces to allow the top to vibrate properly for superior tone and projection. Guitars with our suspension bracing are also easier to mike than other dreadnoughts. Our suspension bracing has been “road tested” at bluegrass performances throughout the United
States, where clear projection into a microphone is critical. Suspension bracing is standard on our
DH-92 model, and can be special ordered on any
Mossman guitar.

There is a great deal of concern these days about the declining
supply of tonewood for guitar construction. So, it is an occasion to celebrate when we are able to put new life in old wood. We have done just that with our supply of “Lone Star” mahogany. This high-grade mahogany was used by the Lone Star Steel Company of Texas as casting forms in their operation. We have taken this aged, air-dried wood and given it a second career as fine musical instruments. So deep and rich is this mahogany, that we don’t stain it (as is the common practice) because it is just too beautiful to modify! Lone Star mahogany is, without question, the finest mahogany we have ever worked with.

Black walnut has been used in guitar construction since the early days of lutherie, but rosewood now overshadows all other tonewoods. This is a grievous error. Walnut has the ringing clarity of mahogany and the deep bass rumble of rosewood. Its rich chocolate colors and exotic grain patterns make for a unique and lovely instrument. We enjoy working with walnut, and offer this pleasing tonewood in many of our guitars.

Consider owning a Mossman if you want a unique guitar that sings of craftsmanship, art, engineering and love of music.
